Chuckling, I apologized. “You realize how much you stand out, don’t you? First of all, why are you dressed like that?”

Her eyes bulged. “Like. What! I was literally laying in bed, scrolling through pictures of cute cats when I suddenly found myself in a bed of leaves! What the fuck else would I be wearing? This isn’t a renaissance fair!” She cleared her throat and put her hands on her head, massaging her temples. “I mean, it isn’t, is it?”

“I don’t know what that is, so I’m just gonna say no.”

Kelsea rolled her eyes. “And then there’s that. It’s like we’re speaking different languages half the time! What were those idiots even talking about? And how dare they tell me I have no class! My mother would have slapped the both of them for talking to a woman that way!”

“Oh! That’s not what they meant by class,” I said, chuckling. “Not in the way that a proper lady has class. They were referring to your class. Like mine, you see?” I pointed above my head, gesturing for her to check my title, proudly adding, “I’m a Champion.”

Her eyes narrowed, and she planted her hands on her hips. Her thin shirt hiked up a bit to reveal some skin. “A champion at what?”

I blinked a few times. “At what? Uh, fighting, I guess. It’s an advanced tier of the Fighter class. You’re probably confused about my level,” I explained, “since I’m a Ruler, I’m allowed to take a tier-3 class from level 1.”

Kelsea sighed. “Oh, I’m confused alright. Your level? The Fighter class… are you telling me this is a video game?”

Tilting my head, I tried to think through her words. “A what?”

“Video game?” she repeated the words more slowly. “Like, with skills and levels and classes? Experience, health bars, stuff like that?”

“Uh, we have all those things, but you’re still not making a lot of sense. What’s vi-day-o?”

She gritted her teeth. “Vi-de-o games! How have you never heard of them!”

I just shrugged. “How do you have no class?”

Kelsea threw up her arms and shrieked.

While desperately trying not to laugh, I explained. “All I mean is, well, everyone gets a class! It’s practically automatic that you’d inherit your class from your parents. Here, what were your parents?”

She was taking deep breaths, trying to calm herself down, when Sasha and Perl walked over to join us. Perl gave a polite wave from behind Sasha, who introduced them. When she reached the word, ‘wives,’ Kelsea shot me a weird look.

“There are so many things wrong about this place…” she grumbled. “Look, it’s nice to meet you two. I had no idea polygamy was a thing around here, but I also apparently don’t know where I am. And I love that dress, by the way.” Sasha nodded as if that were a given. Kelsea sighed and looked at me. “My father was a programmer, and my mother a math professor.”

I rubbed my chin. “Never heard of those classes, before.” Then looked back at Sasha, who shrugged.
